Tallahassee is Ground Zero: The Rally is ON

Archives are treasures of the past that inform the present and provide context for the future. Stonewall’s archives speak to our history in the fight for healthcare and a cure for HIV AIDS. A time when marches and protests shut down streets letting people know that our lives had value and we would not be silenced, our books will not be burned, and our history will be taught and respected.
We came out for same-sex marriage, for the right to serve our nation in the military, and we joined in the Women’s Marches that took place across the nation.
Today, Tallahassee is ground zero. Forces opposing our right to exist, our culture, and our history have converged and have passed laws making it harder for our stories to be told and shared. Our very right to love those we love is being questioned.
For so many across this nation and around the world the freedoms we have gained are the shining light on the hill, a beacon of freedoms and justice so many aspire to. It is our responsibility to keep those victories alive so others can hold on to dreams of a better future.
On Saturday, January 21, 2023, the day after the inauguration of the next governor of Florida we will take to the streets in celebration of someone who will welcome us as partners and support our rights as full members of society, or we will arrive to challenge the policies and pronouncements of those who defame us while suggesting we have no right to exist. No matter the election results the nation, the LGBTQ+ community of family and allies, must join hands and stand strong. The ayatollahs of Tallahassee must be overwhelmed by our commitment to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
This is a call to everyone, family, friend, ally, community member, organization, individual, to join us in Tallahassee.
Today we start adding names to our list of those who will join us, those who will contribute to the cause, those who want to be counted. We want you. Like those who came before us, it is our turn to take to the streets. We are Stonewall, we are the 21st Century’s version of the March on Washington, the March across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the March against the Viet Nam War, the marches for social justice. We will not go back into closets or into jails. Now is our time, Tallahassee is the place. Put your name on the list. We look forward to welcoming you.
